Encyclopedy of Nature - Shrubs and Herbs (vol. 38)

This volume includes 42 species of plants found in the forests and in the ecotone zone. Most of them are commonly encountered throughout the country, but some - such as Yellow Oxeye (Telekia speciosa) and Comfrey (Symphytum cordatum) - we can only find in the mountains. Only one - Swedish Whitebeam (Sorbus intermedia) - is subject to strict protection. Two of the species Fig Buttercup (Ficaria verna) and Field Mint (Mentha arvensis) – are described much wider than the other. The book can be purchased on


Next volumes of the "Encyclopedy of Nature"

In recent months 3 new volumes of the "Encyclopedy of Nature" have been published. They are dedicated to the plants which can be find on meadows, in the water and swamps, and the medicinal plants. The books present both rare and common, grand and tiny species. Each volume is richly illustrated and besides the descriptions contains a lot of interesting curiosities.


Photo Contest in Magurski National Park

At the end of November at the headquarters in Krempna Magurski NP I had the pleasure - as one of the judges - evaluate the photographic works submitted for the eighth edition of the photo contest. This time the title was "Small and large animals in the wild." The choice was difficult but after much deliberation we were able to select the best work. They can be viewed at the park web page:

This work edited by Zbigniew Głowacińskiego, Henry Okarmy, Jerzy Pawlowski and Wojciech Solarz was published in early October by the Institute of Nature Conservation Polish Academy of Sciences. This is the first monograph of its kind in Polish literature. My photos have contributed to the improvement of its illustrative.

Atlases of the DRAGON publishing house.

Recently appeared in bookstores three atlases published by DRAGON in series "Naturally pocket". They are: Atlas of nature, Atlas of trees and shrubs and Atlas of birds. I am the author of introductions and more than half of descriptions in the first two. About 50 photos of my authorship have been used in them.

The list has nearly 520 items and is arranged alphabetically by the Polish names (as in the example below). Most plants are determined for the species. For verification of more difficult taxa based on herbarium specimens collected by myself I thank Dr. Wojciech Paul from the Wladyslaw Szafer Institute of Botany, Polish Academy of Sciences

Since early 2011 we are participating in the new project of DeAgostini coordinated by the publishing house Carta Blanca, It is multi-volume collection of atlases, "Treasures of Polish Nature - Encyclopedia of Nature". First jointly and later myself prepare  volumes devoted to the plants. So far, they appeared as early as 8 and together represent about 340 species of Polish flora...
